Brigid Oesterling

brigid-square.jpgMy original pieces are all one of a kind paintings created using all real flowers and plants. The process requires many steps. For these pieces in particular, I salvaged wood flooring from a 100 year old home, and hand built the frames with the beautiful worn lumber. I love gardening and have a large cutting garden outside of my studio. I feel so lucky to be able to take a break from my artwork to wander through the garden and pick flowers. I press and dry flowers from my garden, flowers found on hikes, or given to me by friends, neighbors and family. I hand make frames, paint the backgrounds of the pieces with acrylic paints and sometimes an encaustic technique. Then, after carefully arranging the flowers, leaves or seeds, I am ready to hand pour an epoxy resin to preserve the pieces. Many of these pieces include plants like; Larkspur, Rose, Fennel, Lavender, Sage, Asparagus, Hydrangea, Daisy, Queen Anne's Lace, Columbine, Silver Dollar, and a variety of other found Wildflowers and Herbs. Many of these herbs and flowers have been used for healing and as talisman for centuries. I believe that flowers and plants are a beautiful healing way to bring nature into your home. I hope that you enjoy these pieces and that they brighten and inspire your living spaces. “Listen to the flowers for they speak to your soul” - K.Greenway
